I needed a stout bench for a 2×72 belt grinder, so after a bit of scrounging in the scrap lumber pile, I came up with a fine little bench that is screwed into a corner and should withstand just about anything I could throw at it. While designing it, one comment I found helpful was about the height: locate the grinder’s tool rest so that it is about elbow height. The reasoning: to avoid stooping over while using it as well as to allow you to keep your forearms level & thus provide the greatest force against the belt. No nails, lots of screws and a few bolts. My scrap pile wasn’t sufficient for the project: I did have to buy one 2×4, thus the name.
